Letter of Recognition for Excellent Outcomes for Our Disadvantaged Pupils

We are proud to share that three of our primary schools across Pontefract Academies Trust have been formally recognised by Bridget Phillipson MP, Secretary of State for Education, for their exceptional outcomes for disadvantaged pupils. Halfpenny Lane Junior, Infant & Nursery School, Carleton Park Junior & Infant School and De Lacy Primary School have all demonstrated exceptional performance and have, consequently, received national recognition.

In her letter, the Secretary of State praised the dedication and ambition shown by both schools, writing:

“This success reflects the dedication of your staff and the hard work of your pupils. It shows what can be achieved when ambition and commitment come together. Thank you for everything you do to give children the best possible opportunities to succeed.” –Bridget Phillipson MP

This letter highlights the phenomenal impact of our staff; their tireless dedication to supporting pupils and serving our wider community. Their commitment continues to make a meaningful difference to the lives of the children and families in and around Pontefract.

The consistent success across our schools highlights the effectiveness of the strategies we have implemented. At Halfpenny Lane, 87% of disadvantaged pupils met the expected standard, significantly higher than the national average of 69%. 71% of disadvantaged pupils at both De Lacy and Carleton Park achieved the expected standard. These results place these schools among the top-performing primary schools nationally.

The recognition from the Secretary of State serves as an important reminder of our shared commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for every pupil, regardless of background. While closing the attainment gap remains a key priority, our mission goes further to ensure all pupils are equipped with the skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to give our children and young people the chance in life that they deserve.

To see multiple schools across our Trust acknowledged at a national level is a source of immense pride and reflects the collective impact we continue to have within our communities. We are proud of this achievement, but we know our work will continue as we strive to further improve outcomes for all pupils.
