Subject: Literacy

At Carleton Park our children are immersed into Literacy from foundation stage.

We aim to provide children with the tools needed to help them succeed through progression from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2, as well as from Key Stage 2 into high school.

Literacy is taught daily across the school and has a focus on developing children as confident and independent learners, who can take risks in their writing, are able to use and understand grammatical terms, and can assess the effectiveness of their own and others’ work.

Children at our school are provided with a rich and varied curriculum where they are immersed in a wide range of genres, through reading and writing. We use guided reading as a tool to embed a range of reading skills, as well as involving parents and the community in supporting children’s reading. The school uses the Oxford Reading Tree scheme, supplemented with other books from other schemes where necessary.
